Terms and Conditions

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Exhibit A Mysteries website and the purchase and use of any digital mystery case products ("Products") sold through it. By purchasing a Product or using this website, you agree to these Terms.

1. Products

Exhibit A Mysteries sells downloadable crime-solving mystery cases. Each Product consists of a printable PDF evidence packet and access to an accompanying web-based engine, where clues found in the physical evidence are used to unlock digital content. Products are works of fiction created for entertainment purposes. Any resemblance to real persons, companies, or events is coincidental unless explicitly stated.

2. License to Use

When you purchase a Product, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to:

  • Download and print the evidence packet for your own use and for use by participants in a single playthrough (e.g., your group of players);
  • Access the associated web engine to play that case.

You may not:

  • Resell, sublicense, rent, or otherwise distribute the Product, in whole or in part, to any third party;
  • Use the Product for any commercial purpose (e.g., running paid public events) without our prior written permission;
  • Reproduce, modify, or create derivative works from the Product's content, artwork, or engine code.

Recorded playthroughs and "let's play" content: We encourage you to record, stream, or publish your own playthrough of a Product — as video content, a podcast, or on social media — including gameplay footage and your solution process. We welcome this as a form of marketing and word-of-mouth for Exhibit A Mysteries. We only ask that you avoid presenting such content in a way designed to allow someone to solve the case without purchasing it themselves (for example, publishing a standalone answer key or login credentials outside the context of your own playthrough).

3. Intellectual Property

All content, including but not limited to text, artwork, puzzle designs, and the web engine, is the property of Exhibit A Mysteries and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Purchasing a Product does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property to you.

4. Purchases and Payment

Prices are listed on the website at the time of purchase and are subject to change without notice for future purchases. Payment is processed through our third-party payment provider at checkout. By completing a purchase, you confirm that you are authorized to use the payment method provided.

5. Delivery

Digital files and web engine access are made available immediately upon successful payment. It is your responsibility to ensure you have a valid email address and access to a device capable of opening PDF files and using a standard web browser.

6. Refunds

All sales are final except in the case of a genuinely faulty file or broken download, as set out in our Refund & Returns Policy. Please refer to that policy for details.

7. Age and Suitability

Our Products are designed for general audiences but may include mature themes typical of crime fiction (e.g., references to death, deception, or crime). Products are not intended for unsupervised use by children. Use your discretion when involving minors.

8. No Warranty on Puzzle Difficulty or Outcome

Products are sold as designed puzzle experiences. We do not guarantee that any individual or group will successfully solve a case, and difficulty ratings are provided as a guide only, not a guarantee of experience.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Exhibit A Mysteries shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your purchase or use of a Product, including but not limited to technical issues, printing costs, or dissatisfaction with the puzzle experience. Our total liability in any circumstance is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant Product.

10. Website Use

You agree not to misuse this website, including attempting to gain unauthorized access to any part of it, interfering with its operation, or using it for any unlawful purpose.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the website or purchase of Products after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Exhibit A Mysteries operates from Malmesbury, Western Cape. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of our Products shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Cape Town, Western Cape. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008, or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 25 of 2002. See our Refund & Returns Policy for how these apply to digital downloads specifically.
